The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
"But love, I've come to understand, is more than three words mumbled before bedtime. Love is sustained by action, a pattern of devotion in the things we do for each other every day."
Every once in a while you come across a book that truly touches you, that resonates within you and leaves you contemplating for days to come. I didn't think I'd get this from a Nicholas Sparks book, I was expecting the same old romance book that is my guilty pleasure. But this book showed the real struggles of relationships that as we grow we have to work harder to keep close to those we love, to keep the love between two people so strong.
Sparks writes this book so we can read how the two main characters came to love each other, started a family and had some great moments. But you also read about the struggle of parents after they have children, how their conversations revolve around what the children are doing. How once all the children leave the house, you can find yourselves unsure of how to speak to the other. But one of the best things of this book is the way the narrator realizes his wife may not love him anymore and his desperate attempts to bring them close once more. And the help from others, the struggles they have also endured made this book real on so many different levels.
