Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

"I think, like you, like me, like everyone, she had regrets. I think sometimes she woke up in the night wondering if the path she took was the right one."

This book was a great mix of emotionally engaging and thought-provoking. Jason is abducted, knocked unconscious and wakes up in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people who seem to know him as someone he isn't. He begins to doubt what's real or not, doubt if he'll ever make it back to the wife and son he loves. The added sci-fi element of alternate universes gave it suspense and intrigue that made me think harder and harder about what could be out there. Then, the fact that Jason is constantly trying to get back to the family he loved shows that the question of "what if?" may not matter, may drive you insane, may mean everything.

When you think you've wrapped your head around the science and the situation, you haven't. The "twist" comes out of nowhere and creates even further complications and horrors you may not be able to handle. But it makes you keep reading while ignoring the world around you because you just have to know what happens.

I felt so small after reading this book and had a slight headache from trying to make sense of it all, but man, it was good.

Synopsis: "Are you happy with your life?" Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before being knocked unconscious and waking up to a life that isn't his own. His wife isn't his wife, his son was never born, he is a genius who achieved the impossible rather than an ordinary college professor. Which life is the truth? Can he get back to the family he loves?
