This book was a great mix of emotionally engaging and thought-provoking. Jason is abducted, knocked unconscious and wakes up in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people who seem to know him as someone he isn't. He begins to doubt what's real or not, doubt if he'll ever make it back to the wife and son he loves. The added sci-fi element of alternate universes gave it suspense and intrigue that made me think harder and harder about what could be out there. Then, the fact that Jason is constantly trying to get back to the family he loved shows that the question of "what if?" may not matter, may drive you insane, may mean everything.
When you think you've wrapped your head around the science and the situation, you haven't. The "twist" comes out of nowhere and creates even further complications and horrors you may not be able to handle. But it makes you keep reading while ignoring the world around you because you just have to know what happens.
I felt so small after reading this book and had a slight headache from trying to make sense of it all, but man, it was good.
